Ready to Increase Online Sales? Check Out These Five Tips for eCommerce Product Photography

In the first part of this series, we discussed the importance of high-quality product photography and the huge impact it can have on your e-Commerce sales. In this post, we’ll offer some key tips and advice as you explore obtaining a higher value to your product imagery.

Five Tips to Consider Now!

1. Photograph the Entire Product

This tip may seem obvious, but make sure that the entire product is visible in the hero photo. The product should be straight, level, and have a decent amount of blank space around it. If not, shoppers are less likely to convert. Clean product photography clearly communicates to potential customers that you’re a reputable brand, not a hobbyist.

2. Strive for Consistent Sizing

Keep a large-enough margin between each product and its border. This gives the product room to breathe. If your product photos aren’t all the same size, it can negatively impact your customer’s browsing experience. Visually, it looks unbalanced. Getting your images to look consistent isn’t always easy — but with planning ahead of the shoot, it can make the task easier. Don’t have the time to figure out this out? Our team has prepped images to spec for all major eCommerce platforms and can provide you final files exactly as needed for uploading.

3. Make Your Product Front & Center

Be sure to place your product perfectly in the center of the frame and always photograph additional colors of the same SKU at the same angle. Depending on the product, retouching can be a good option to maintain consistent angles through changing colors in post. This gives your online store a unified, balanced, and organized look.

4. Feature Multiple Images Per Product

Generally, it’s best to showcase multiple images of each product. Customers want to see the product from different angles, close-ups of the product’s details and see how it looks on an actual human being. 360-spin motion videos are another great way to showcase your product.

5. Showcase Each Color and Size

If you offer a product in multiple colors and sizes, make sure you have photos of each color and size on your site. If your customers order more than one color, you increase your cart size and average order value. Plus, depending on the product type, color changes can be made in post-production, eliminating the need to take the same photo of different color versions of a product.

The Quality of Your Product Imagery Makes All the Difference

The product photos you use are one of your greatest assets. When done well, they’ll improve your customers’ online shopping experience, and increase your site conversions and average shopping cart value. When done poorly, they do the exact opposite and can hurt your brand.
